A sub that s decent enough to use with these will most likely cost at least $300 alone (unless you can score something good on the used market for next-to-nothing). If you can find a set of Quintets for that $300, than you got yourself one very good system for that money, although I highly doubt you'll also be able to get a sub with that as well. Any decent quality, but inexpesnive, sub will work with these speakers.
Obviously, you don't have to get a Klipsch KSW series sub. People may not speak to highly of the KSW series subs, which are often what is paired with the Quintets, but they are an order of magnitude better than that sorry excuse for a "sub" that comes with the Bose setups. They easily out-performed a much more expensive Bose AcousticmMass 15 setup, and they are not much bigger in size than the Bose dual-cubes. Obviously, the bass is a bit lacking, so you will want a subwoofer to go with them. They were able to project a good sound stage with decent imaging as well. 'Ensemble II, like its companions in the Cambridge SoundWorks lineup, performs so far beyond its price and size class that it can be compared only with much.

I've heard the Quintets (at least the "II" version), and I was impressed with how good those little speakers sounded. New Ensemble II satellites can be located on bookshelves, hung from a wall with No.
Consider locations where conventional speakers would not fit. Not like anybody would be able to really tell a difference anyway. New Ensemble II speaker units in your listening room. Still, it would not hurt to try to go for the newer version if you can, otherwise, grab whatever you can find and don't worry about it. I would be willing to bet that if somebody did a side-by-side listening of the incremental series, they would probably not be able to tell the difference between them.
I would guess they are minor, incremental, improvments, much like there was an RF-3 and then an RF-3 II, of which the only difference was that the -II and Monster wiring internally, and some minor improvment with the port (I heard stories that the port tube of the RF-3 sometimes came out, especially if somebody tried to use it as a handle to lift the speaker). Didn't realize there was a "III" and a "IV" series.
